Nice to Meet You!

Whether you've stumbled upon this blog by happenstance or you came here from one of the Kidder Writing Services social media pages, welcome! Since we are getting to know one another, let me introduce myself. My name is Grace, and I am a lifelong word nerd. I have always enjoyed reading and writing, think grammar jokes are hilarious, and find a strange satisfaction in discovering a typo in a restaurant menu. I have also been known to play word games on the Merriam-Webster website and read the Chicago Manual of Style for fun. Because of this, combining my love for language and eye for detail to become an editor and writer was a no-brainer. You can find more information about me in the second half of this post. For now, let's talk business (but in a fun way, of course).

I created Kidder Writing Services to help writers create and publish their best work, and I am starting this blog for the same reason. I want to equip people with the knowledge they need to produce text that is powerful and effective, as well as provide a fun, lighthearted look at the fascinating world of words. This blog is for writers, proofreaders, editors, teachers, students, bloggers, copywriters, advertisers, social-media users, word-puzzle fanatics, lifelong learners—basically anyone with a love for language. I welcome and appreciate topic suggestions and questions about grammar, writing, proofreading, etc. If I don't know the answer, finding it will be as much for me as it is for you.

With this blog, I intend to talk about writing tips, common grammatical mistakes (and how to avoid them), interesting and uncommon words, my favorite types of figurative language, and whatever else my nerdy brain comes up with. In short, this blog will be a celebration and exploration of the wonderful thing we call the English language. English can be a very confusing and nonsensical language at times, but it is so fun to learn about the rules of grammar and how they have evolved over the years, discover new words, and play around with different ways of structuring a sentence—or, at least, I think it's fun. Hopefully you do too, and will continue to check out the Kidder Writing Services blog for new posts. If you'd like to be notified when a new post is published, make sure to subscribe to get updates!

Through this business, I provide proofreading, copyediting, and content writing for a wide range of projects, including websites, blog posts, business emails, academic papers, and articles. As a proofreader, I help catch those little mistakes that writers might be too busy to notice, like punctuation problems, spelling snafus, and grammar goofs (I really like alliteration, if you can't tell). If desired, I can also offer suggestions on how to be more concise, avoid confusing word choices, and improve the overall flow of a piece of writing. But enough about the business side of things; you can read about that on my website. Let's talk more about me!

My personal interests include dance, music, travel, animals, and food/health. (Fun fact: when I'm not editing or writing, I am a professional dancer and dance teacher!) I love going for walks and exploring new places, and I am always looking for something new to do or learn about. Theater and film hold a special place in my heart, so prepare for a lot of movie and musical references. I am also a big fan of puns, so those will definitely show up in my blog posts from time to time (I had three different Halloween costumes this year that were all puns). Sorry! But not really.

As I mentioned above, I am a professional dancer. I have been dancing since I was five years old and graduated from Oklahoma City University with a dance performance degree. I moved to Minneapolis, MN, two years ago to dance with Collide Theatrical Dance Company, a theatrical jazz-based company that creates original dance musicals. I currently still live in Minneapolis with my partner Logan and our two cats. Their names are Nora and Boots, and they are the loves of my life (along with Logan, of course). Our fur babies provide us with endless laughs and cuddles, and I have way too many pictures of them on my phone. Here are two of the hundreds:

That about wraps up who I am and what I do. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and my business. I would love to get to know you as well, if I don't already! Tell me a little bit about yourself in the comments, if you feel comfortable doing so. I'd love to know what kinds of people are as interested in words as I am. Make sure to subscribe for updates about new posts!

Until next time,

Grace
